Lastly, some *a*d*v*i*c*e* just in case you're not familiar with Anchorage.  First, use the "HYBRID" feature  on GOOGLE'S MAP SITE, so you can better SEE if an address actually IS "near" lakes, parks, forests, etc..  Also, INVESTIGATE whether an advertised rental REALLY is "near UAA/Providence".  (To be "near UAA" an address should be within EASY walking distance, YEARROUND, so mark these points on your reference map: look for places between about 16th Ave. & 42nd Ave. [NOT south of awful Tudor Rd], no farther east than Wesleyan Dr. or Checkmate Dr., and no farther west than Rhone Cir. or Karluk St..)   Avoid high-density/noisy complexes or places too close to highways, big commercial roads, or troubled areas, such as: Muldoon Rd., Minnesota Blvd, Dimond Blvd, Airport Hts, MountainView, Northway Mall, actually ANY of the malls....  Also, don't be pressured into signing any long-term lease for a rental that you cannot try out for a shorter period. [Anchorage is a renters' market -- there are MANY places available -- so request a SHORT-TERM lease with an option to convert to a longer term if the place proves suitable.]  And be aware that Anchorage has POOR "public transportation" -- way too slow, too pricey & too limited, with mostly unpleasant bus-stops & too few buses, which don't reach enough places & don't even operate for enough hours each week.  It'll save you a lot of time & aggravation (and some money) if you can reside close to where you have to study or work.
